My Learning Fall And Rise
The first day of school i was not excited. I was like the usual school routine and the usual boring classroom routines too. i went about my day going through my classes which i didn't pay attention cause i knew what was expected of me and i knew the usual classroom routines and whatever. when i arrived to this class i was nervous because this was an AP English classroom which i knew was going to be advanced and difficult I had many thoughts going through my head like all the work i am going to have, how much i will struggle, the amount of hours i am going to have to spend doing homework and projects, stressing over essays etc. I sat down and you explained how this class was going to be open source learning, that right there caught my attention and i continued to listen because i was like "wait a minute, so this isn't going to be the usual exhausting English class?? awesome!!" as you continued to talk i was more and more interested i thought to myself "this teacher is cool, the learning is different, this was going to be a great school year!" Although when you left the class and let us choose what we wanted to do, i was a little skeptical on what we chose aka the blogs because i had never done a blog before it was totally knew to me.
As the days went on and everything was explained on what we were going to do and what we were expecting i was glad we were going to to something different compared to other English classes and what teachers have been manipulating and forcing me to do :). The journals were familiar and straight forward to me because I've been doing journals since elementary. Although, getting to high school i stopped until now. Also memorizing poems were familiar to me too because as i said before i've been doing it since elementary although the ones in elementary were not that long i believe and they were about something simple and fun like monsters under my bed or the sun that was very happy etc. The poems we do now are lovely and i enjoy them because each poem has a meaning to it and a different perceptive which i find pleasant to read (Richard Cory poem) . Posting was something sorta different i usually have to recite a poem and present it in front of the class which i hate, so when u said we could post them i felt so relieved.
Some challenges that i faced were expressing my ideas along with the topic of what we currently discussing that day. I wasn't used to the fact of giving my opinion or thoughts on a work assignment. As well as the essays came as a challenge to me too due to the fact that they weren't the usual essay 5 paragraph format that i was use to.As we kept doing this and practicing i eventually got the hang of it. My writing and giving thought and opinions to it isn't perfect but i am getting to eventually making it a great piece of writing along with the topic and my beliefs. I've learned that it is okay to oppose something you don't agree with and that not everyone is going to have the same opinion as you and that is okay because thats what makes writing great, the thought that not everyone has the same thoughts, opinions,and beliefs. You get to see everyones way of thinking.
As the days went on in the classroom i built a routine on how i managed my work in that class and my work performance. Although i did fall behind on journal topics and a couple of blogs because my attention was more on other time consuming assignments that i just wanted to focus on. I catched up on these things by making them up at home. The makeup days that we had in class also helped a tremendously amount because i was able to catch up on the few things i had missing. This class has been a new learning experience to me which i really enjoy. i love the fact that we have different people with different minds collaborating and giving ideas to things id never saw that way before. Now that i have experienced a new form of learning i feel that back then as a leaner my education on English was quite simple and not that exciting. The learner i was back then knew what to do and never really actually got the chance to learn something unique. As a learner before my writing was alright, my was of interpretation and analization of things was good too but i feel now more confident in my writing, reading, analyzing etc. now than ever. This class has given me an opportunity to express my learning in different ways i didn't know you could be educated and not be bored.
